An Example Crew

To follow up on yesterday's post about character generation in Any Planet Is Earth, I rolled against some tables tonight to generate a sample crew of five people for play following their respective careers. I rolled 100% randomly here, not picking services for any characters, whether initial or follow-up.

Pardon my coffee table (janky).

For now, I'm swapping formatting to a simpler, more elegant manner, and borrowing the UPP (universal personality profile) from Traveller, wherein stats are listed XYZ at their values for STR/DEX/SOC. At 10+, they become A, B, C, etc. This (like all of these design points) is subject to change as iteration and refinement continues.

Chad Lassiter 455, 34 years old
(3 terms mercantile, 1 term expeditionary)
Leadership, Vehicle
6-petty cash, goverment papers, trade contact, handgun
Ally NPC

Chad was a pretty average guy. He joined up with the merchants' guild and handled a number of successful agreements over the years. There was that time on Luxottica IV when the captain of the ship was dead-ass drunk and no one would step up to honor the "local dignitaries," but Chad managed to impress them. He blew off steam learning how to handle ATV hovercraft in his downtime, and later nailed a local treaty wherein he absolved a baron's son of a blood penalty.

Chelsyk Nobol 795, 22 years old
(1 term mercantile)
Leadership
3-petty cash, trade contact

Chelsyk is green. She served a single term aboard a junk trader, Larimeth, and managed to serve as petty morale officer during the long haul between Eljin and Tesk. She has some clout with regional merchants, but needs to put her gumption to work if she wants to make something of herself.

Briony Sandgate 35A, 22 years old
(1 term expeditionary)
Vacc Suit
0-petty cash, vacc suit (light)

Briony has no fear of space. It's a vaccum. So what? She was first in line to join a crew bound for the Cygnus Station, a derelict beacon leftover from a war so long ago that little is known about it. She conducted a number of tethered walks around the hulk and even came away with a modified vacc suit as a workable trophy.

Anton El-Amora B63, 34 years old
(1 term expeditionary, 3 terms military)
Guns, Vacc Suit, Vehicle
2-petty cash, personal comm array, SMG (messy), handgun (auto)

Anton thought he wanted to be a scientist. Science turned out to be tedious paperwork. He did the heavy lifting for the mission he was dispatched to, then enlisted in the marines when he got back shoreside. He was a natural--strong, forthright, tempestuous. It was great until he ended up busted with anagathic drugs on an extended leave and booted from the service.

Commander Crystal Arsham A93, 42 years old
(6 terms military)
Starship (expert), Ordnance
3-petty cash, armor +1, handgun (stealth), rifle (far), 6-knives
Ally NPC, Ambivalent NPC, Blackmail

Crystal has been around the block. Once a maggot gunny, she found herself short-listed for a flight program and ended up piloting skiffs and scoutships for the better part of a decade before becoming the chief flight commander for the IUS Cordobal, an advance destroyer loaded to the gills with heavy long-range weaponry. She met a man who nearly died for her, and would have, if the circumstances allowed. She also brushed shoulders with an annoying tactical ensign who seems always to show up on the same assignment with her. There are, of course, those photos, which she would prefer did not exist, but alas, not only do they, but at a moment's notice could be blasted across the network if her steady outgoing payments ever dry up.

Yeah, notecards with crap handwriting. It's auteur.
Briony and Chelsyk rolled single-term careers which ended abruptly through forced retirement or a low term roll. They have just enough under their belt to represent a valid adventurer who is capable of much despite starting with little. Chad and Anton managed longer careers, but they were frought with difficulty and unexpected turns, each hitting tough mishap rolls in the military. Both are handy with much, and they can make it, but they have several weaknesses and boons to contend with. Crystal is a boss. She had a long run in the military and oversaw the direction of a near-capital vessel with ease, landing on redundant starship skill rolls and racking up a 12 event for 2x boons at +1. Of course, rank and tenure make one all the more vulnerable to blackmail, but she's also met a few meaningful people along the way... she also casually carries six knives with her at all times.

A motley crew, just as I would hope. They even start with 1-asset thanks to one of Crystal's boon rolls. I'd run this group through a whole host of emergent stories as the sail through the black together.
